Yammer

This is a really cool product that is very similar to Twitter but is for the enterprise. Yammer is a too for making companies more productive through short frequent answers to one question "What are you working on?". Very similar obviously to Twitter: "What are you doing?". As employees within the organization answer this question, a feed is created in one central location allowing co-workers to discuss ideas and much more. It also serves as a directory for the company where every employee has a profile and where past conversations can be accessed.

Anyone within your organization can start they Yammer network and begin inviting co-workers. Only individuals with a valid company address would be able to access the network. The basic Yammer service is free. You can pay for the premium service which would allow you to have administrative control over your company's yammer network. Check out the demo here.

I think this could be a really cool service if you can get the buy in from others in the organization to use it on a regular basis. Let me know what you think.

What is Twitter

I was at a cookout today with some friends and they were asking me what Twitter was. I tried to explain the best I could but I couldn't do it justice. So I decided to post this video that helped me understand. I am still not sure about it, but I am giving it a try. Let me know your thoughts after viewing the video.

Porn nightmare at 37,000 feet?

First 6x Blu-ray blank media now available

Here you go folks! If any of you are interested in burning to Blue-ray. However, you will pay a hefty price tag for one disk. Users can record 25GB of data in as little as 17 minutes, which is about 25% faster than the 4x discs. One single layer disc will run about $14 and a dual layer disc will cost $33. The cost for these discs aren't likely to come down anytime soon.

Fitbit Available Late 2008

The Fitbit Tracker contains a motion sensor like the ones found in the Nintendo Wii. The Tracker senses your motion in three dimensions and converts this into useful information about your daily activities. The Tracker measures the intensity and duration of your physical activities, calories burned, steps taken, distance traveled, how long it took you to fall asleep, the number of times you woke up throughout the night and how long you were actually asleep vs just lying in bed. You can wear the Tracker loosely in your pocket or clipped to your clothing, even bras.

It will be priced at $99 and will be available in December or early January. The device will sync via wireless anytime you come within 25-50 ft. of the station base. It will then upload the statistics to your account on fitbit.com and your statistics will be tracked there. The access to the website is free with the purchase of the device.

I might be trying one of these. Looks pretty cool.

How to track your Blogger statistics with Google

I found this article on how to add Google Analytic to your blogger site. It is pretty cool because it will let you know how people are getting to your site and if they repeat visitors. It also records what city they are from. I found it useful. Check out the link.

Bret Michaels/"Rock of Love" come to Greenfield, IN

I am not sure why they chose Greenfield, IN but Bret Michaels and the cast of Rock of Love stopped in Greenfield, IN at a small wedding chapel to film for the upcoming season of the show. My wife got a call from her brother who works for the local law enforcement saying that they were in town. Apparently they going across the country and stopping at various locations to "get married" for the show. I don't watch the show but my wife watches it. Therefore, I was drug up there to see what was going on.

They were filming at a small wedding chapel near the corner of Pennsylvania and North Street in downtown Greenfield. I took a couple of pictures with my cell phone so the quality isn't that great. I would guess that about 200 people had gathered around waiting for them to come out of the church.

The funny thing is that they never contacted the local law enforcement to let them know they were coming. After a crowd started showing up, they contacted the police for security. I am sure they did they on purpose to draw the initial crowd.

7 Tips for Money and Marriage

I come across the article listed above in one of my rss feeds called "Get Rich Slowly" and thought it had some good points. I have included some of them below.

  • Talk and share goals. Communication is key. Kris and will take a brief vacation next month. Besides unwinding, we plan to discuss our goals for the future. It’s important for both partners to work together for the same purpose.
  • Run a home like a business. In the forthcoming How to Be the Family CFO, Kim Snider writes that there are many similarities between managing a successful business and managing your personal finances. Your goal should be to run a profitable firm!
  • Be supportive of careers. Help your partner pursue her dreams. When Kris quit teaching to become a scientist, I was ready to do whatever she needed to help her succeed. And when I decided to quit my job to blog full-time, Kris was my biggest supporter.
  • Enjoy, but within reason. It’s okay to spend money to enjoy life (that’s what it’s for!), but don’t get caught up in the rat-race, and be sure to save for the future.
  • Use a mediator. When you and your partner can’t agree on a financial decision, bring in third-party help. If you disagree about how to invest, for example, then see a financial planner.
  • Maintain some independence. “Pooling resources is important,” writes Bernard, “but so is maintaining a degree of financial independence.” Many couples with joint finances also maintain separate allowances for each partner.
  • Invest in your marriage. Spend time and money on your relationship. Bernard says to consider this “dollar-cost averaging your marriage”, which is a clever. When Kris and I get grumpy with each other, it’s almost always because we haven’t been doing things together as a couple.

Michael Dolan: One System Does Not Fit All

For those of us who use the GTD system, I think it is very important to remember that there is not a "silver bullet". This article talks specifically about that.

A Trip to Cincinnati

This weekend we took a trip to Cincinnati for the weekend. On Friday, Kalob and I went to the Cubs/Reds game at Great American Ball Park. It was the first time that I had been to this ball park and I have to say that I would highly recommend it. The Cubs lost 11-1 and it rained quite a bit but we still had a good time. We sat 5 rows up in right field and they were excellent seats. It finally did quit raining around the 5 inning or so.

The next day we all went to the Cincinnati Zoo. We had been to this zoo before but we really like it. We spent most of the day there and Kalob and Maddox had a good time. We did manage to lose our digital camera (which SUCKS!). Luckily, I didn't lose to many pictures on the memory card. Later on that evening, we went to a restaurant that has been featured on the Food Network called Choo Choo Restaurant. It was an old train station that was converted into a restaurant. It has an old diner feel and I would recommend it if you want something that is not a chain. The food was good and reasonably priced. Later on, we went to a putt-putt and go-kart track. Maddox and Kalob loved riding the go-carts and playing golf. It was good to spend a whole weekend with Amy and the boys uninterrupted.

The next day we were heading home and stopped by the Bass Pro Shop before leaving the Cincinnati area. The boys had a good time looking around at all of the cool stuff they have there. It was nice to get away from "reality" for the weekend even if it was only a couple of hours away.

Call of Duty 5: World At War

Call of Duty 5 is scheduled to be released soon (by year end). The trailers look pretty good and co-op missions look like they will be a lot of fun as well. I haven't seen anything about the on-line matches. I am a big fan of Call of Duty 4 online with the xbox 360.

Check out some of the trailers here.
